2006 Highlights
- Established a USGA/LPGA Junior Girls Program within the GTJG main Program
- Received a $30,000 Grant from the United States Golf Association
- Received a $25,000 Donation from the Olsen Foundation
- Awarded Two College Scholarships to Paul D’Auria & Sean Campbell
- Implemented a six day a week programming schedule
- Increased our on course training to include 8 total golf facilities in NJ
- Had over 20 members participate in Mercer County Future Champions Events
- Had several members participate in Golf Channel’s Drive Chip and Putt Event
- Had many members Win their age division in Newark Youth Golf Championship
- Won our annual Tri-Match against Newark Youth Golf and Trenton First Tee
- Finished the year with our Annual GTJG barbecue/awards picnic at the Park
Individual Highlights
- Preston Combs (17) – Won the Mercer County Junior Tournament of Champions, finished in the top 5 of NJ State Prep School Championship, selected Player of the Year at Royce Brook’s Junior College of Golf.
- Jasmine Hughes (16) – Qualified for the Eastern Regional PA High School Girls Golf Championship, finished 20th overall in finals, won several Mercer County Future Champion Events, played and placed in numerous AJGA and JGA events.
- Franca Hurtado (8) – Won age division U.S. Kids Golf World Championship Qualifier, Won Philadelphia PGA Section Junior Tour Championship, First Place Local and State Qualifier Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt, Driving Champion & 3rd Overall Eastern Regional Mutual of Omaha Drive, Chip & Putt.
- Paloma Santiago (10) – Awarded a $2,000 Mary’s Girls Grant from the Philadelphia Golf Association, competed in several local NJPGA Jr. Events.
- William Harvey (16) – Had a Hole-in-One on the 110yd 8th hole @ Royce Brook’s East Course during Greater Trenton Junior Golf’s victory over Newark Youth Golf and First Tee of Greater Trenton Tri-match October 2006.
To hook a kid on golf early is challenging, particularly when we’re starting “against the grain”. But once they’re hooked, the opportunities are almost endless. Greater Trenton Junior Golf provides significant opportunities to our youth in an attempt to buck a number of negative trends.
